AATWB Review

Intrigued by the comparison to Agatha Christie, I couldn't resist picking up this book. It started out as a slow burn, but turned out to be one of the best books I’ve read in quite some time.

My reading selections this month have an unintentional theme…unstable narrator. Lo Blackwell, a travel journalist, grappling with the weight of her own battles with depression and anxiety, is traumatized in the beginning of the book when she wakes to find a masked intruder in her apartment rummaging through her belongings. Startled by her presence he slams a door in her face causing a gash before running off with her purse and cell phone. Exhausted and sleepless she still embarks on what appears to be an indulgent voyage aboard the luxurious yacht, Aurora, to prove to her boss she is worthy of a promotion.

As the vessel glides through the calm waters, its opulent surroundings beckoning relaxation and tranquility, Lo's hopes for a respite from her troubled mind quickly shatter.
The cruise takes a chilling turn on the very first night, shattering the façade of serenity. Lo bears witness to an unsettling murder, a gruesome scene that etches itself into her mind. Fueled by fear and disbelief, she races to contact the ship's security, Nilsson, only to unravel a perplexing mystery. Cabin 10, the location of the heinous crime, stands ominously silent, its absence from the ship's records casting doubts and raising terrifying questions.
Lo's mind races as she recalls her earlier encounter with a girl from the neighboring cabin, an encounter that seemed harmless at the time but now takes on a sinister undertone. Seeking answers and desperate for the truth, Lo teams up with Nilsson, forming an unlikely alliance as they plunge headfirst into the enigmatic world of the ship's staff and passengers.
Amidst suspicion and deception, Lo finds an unexpected ally in her ex-boyfriend, who also happens to be on the same treacherous voyage. Together, they navigate through a treacherous labyrinth of secrets and lies, each twist and turn increasing the stakes of their perilous mission. But when Lo suddenly vanishes, caught in the grasp of her captors within the hidden depths of the ship, her reliance on her own wits becomes her sole hope for survival.
With each passing chapter, the suspense tightens like a noose, the intricate web of deceit threatening to suffocate Lo. As I eagerly turned the pages, I found myself transported to a world reminiscent of Agatha Christie's genius, with just the right blend of intensity and suspense. This captivating thriller grabbed hold of me, refusing to release its grip until the final, heart-stopping revelation.
