Quicksilver by Callie Hart

“Because she is moonlight. The mist that shrouds the mountains. The bite of electricity in the air before a storm. The smoke that rolls across a battlefield before the killing starts. You have no idea what she is. What she could be. You should call her Majesty.”

ATTWB Book Review: Quicksilver by Callie Hart

ATTWB Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Genre: Fantasy, Romance

Introduction: You know that feeling when you stumble upon a book that's so gripping, you just can't put it down? That's exactly what happened to me with "Quicksilver" by Callie Hart. This book is a rollercoaster of emotions, packed with magic, alchemy, and vampires! Buckle up, because I'm about to take you on a wild ride through the world of Fae and Alchemy!

Plot Overview: Saeris is a savvy thief hustling to survive in the gritty, divided city of Zilvaren. Life’s tough, water’s rationed, and you have to fight to survive. With her younger brother Hayden constantly in trouble, Saeris has her hands full. Things get even crazier when she steals a gauntlet from the king's guard and ends up facing the fierce Queen Madra. Saeris fights till the almost death and then she's transported to the fae realm of Yvelia, where she meets Kingfisher, think broody, gorgeous hero vibes, and the king's daughter, Everlayne. Turns out, Saeris can control Quicksilver, a powerful magic that can open portals. To save her brother and get back home, she needs to master this magic while navigating a minefield of danger and intrigue.

Character Vibes: Saeris is a badass protagonist who’s both tough and caring. Her dynamic with Kingfisher is chef's kiss, think snarky banter and undeniable chemistry. Kingfisher is the ultimate "shadow daddy," right up there with Rhys and Xaden. And then there's Carrion, the goofy sidekick who brings comic relief to thr seriousness of the plot.

Themes and Magic: Callie Hart nails it with her evocative writing style, pulling you into this vivid, magical world. The book explores themes of survival, loyalty, and redemption, and the magic system is so unique, combining fae elements, alchemy, and vampires.

Final Thoughts: The last few chapters left me shook. The twists, the tension, the stakes, it was all so intense. Kingfisher's snark and the unique magic system were major highlights for me. And that cliffhanger? I’m counting down the days till book two drops this fall! If you’re into romantic suspense with a fantasy twist, "Quicksilver" by Callie Hart is a must-read. It’s got everything, an epic plot, killer characters, and a unique magic system.

From epic love tales, spine-tingling mysteries and enchanting realms of magic, may your bookshelf be overflowing and your heart ever curious.

XOXO,

Candace💋

Back Cover Summary:

Do not touch the sword. Do not turn the key. Do not open the gate.

Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses, or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen’s reservoirs for as long as she can remember. In the land of the unforgiving desert, there isn’t much a girl wouldn’t do for a glass of water. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone.

When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares…but it turns out they’re real, and Saeris has landed right in the middle of a centuries-long conflict that might just get her killed.

The first of her kind to tread the frozen mountains of Yvelia in over a thousand years, Saeris mistakenly binds herself to Kingfisher, a handsome Fae warrior, who has secrets and nefarious agendas of his own. He will use her Alchemist’s magic to protect his people, no matter what it costs him… or her. Death has a name. It is Kingfisher of the Ajun Gate. His past is murky. His attitude stinks. And he’s the only way Saeris is going to make it home.

Be careful of the deals you make, dear child. The devil is in the details...
